Leadership Phelps County

2008-2009 LPC Application

Leadership That Makes A Difference

Leadership Phelps County began in 2004 to identify current and emerging leaders throughout Phelps County, enhance their leadership skills and deepen their knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing our county. The goal is to prepare our participants to take an active role in advancing Phelps County for the common good.  By fostering understanding of how the county's issues are interconnected, and by forging new relationships among community and regional leaders, Leadership Phelps County graduates bring a fresh and informed perspective to their communities and companies, serving as important participants in the unified effort to shape Phelps County's future.

Through a series of 8 sessions held in the communities that make up Phelps County, participants are educated about the county and its challenges.  They meet and talk with current leaders and through field trips, panel discussions, presentations and experiences, explore the county's opportunities, needs and resources.  Leadership Phelps County provides a thought-provoking experience focusing on the attributes of the county, and what it means to be a leader.  By visiting various regions, participants develop an enhanced view and a new meaning to the word community.

Characteristics of successful applicants are:

  • Commitment, motivation and interest to the serve the community.
  • Demonstrated voluntary leadership in community affairs.
  • Willingness to seek future key volunteer and/or appointed leadership roles.
  • Commitment to play a personal role in helping to shape the community's future.
